Africa Centre for Climate and Earth Systems Science
We, the stewards of a most remarkable planet, the only one known to have a glorious diversity of fauna and flora, have become so numerous and powerful that we are now interfering with the processes that make this a habitable planet. To be Earth's responsible stewards we need to understand how our planet functions, have to monitor the continually changing conditions in the air, on land and in the oceans, and have to anticipate future climate changes. This information concerning continually changing environmental conditions, made available to business and government leaders, guides their activities and policies.

ACCESS offers educational programmes that include workshops and advanced seminars, coordinates research projects that include computer modeling of the atmosphere and ocean, makes available operational products related to environmental conditions, and provides information concerning future global warming. This is done from an African > perspective which regards global warming not only as an imminent threat that calls for adaptation and mitigation, but also as a splendid opportunity to promote education at all levels, primary, secondary and tertiary.
